The music on JazzArabia is a blend of classic mainstream jazz, Latin Jazz and Arabic jazz, with selected soul and ‘crossover’ tracks.

All-time greats like Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Miles Davis and Frank Sinatra are featured alongside contemporary jazz stars such as Michael Bublé, Diana Krall and Natalie Cole. Crossover artists include Amy Winehouse and Sade.

Latin greats include Gilberto Gil – Brazil’s former Culture Minister – Tito Puente, Astrud Gilberto and ChickCorea.

Arabic jazz features artists such as Ahmed Abdul-Malik, Anouar Brahem, and Rabih Abou-Khalil.

Rather than having separate programmers for each genre, JazzArabia is going for a blended mix of the different music styles.

Programme Director, Dr Lyria Messahel said, “Even distinctive jazz genres have much in common and they all come from the same roots in Africa and the American South.

“And the listener will always know that something he or she really likes will be played within a few minutes of turning on to JazzArabia.”
